Documents required for membership applications
Depending on the membership level you are applying for, you will need to supply documents to support your application. While not an exhaustive list, the information below will give you an idea of the documents we require in order to properly assess your application. You can email or post/courier your documents to NZSTI.
If you do not currently live in New Zealand:
- Proof of citizenship
- Proof of having lived in NZ for 5+ years and ongoing personal ties to the country
Applying for Accredited Practitioner
- Degree, diploma, certificate or other qualification document
- eQuals or similar online credentials (share with [email protected])
- Full transcript
- Certified translations of qualifications and transcripts not in English
- Official confirmation from the tertiary institution of the language pairs (and direction if applicable) you sat your tests or completed your assignments in, if not clearly stated on your qualification document or transcript
- Te Taura Whiri certificate
Applying for Accredited Practitioner - SLIANZ
- No supporting documents required for full member (interpreting) with the language pair NZSL to/from English.
Applying for Practitioner
- Degree, diploma, certificate or other qualification document
- eQuals or similar online credentials (share with [email protected])
- Full transcript
- Certified translations of qualifications and transcripts not in English
- Official confirmation from the tertiary institution of the language pairs (and direction if applicable) you sat your tests or completed your assignments in, if not clearly stated on your qualification document or transcript
- Letter of reference from Interpreting New Zealand stating the dates you attended the foundation course, the date you completed the final assessment and how many hours in total you have worked for INZ. It should also list any professional development courses you have undertaken.
Applying for Provisional Practitioner
- Form completed by employer or client (MoJ, Health, etc.) confirming you are currently working as a translator or interpreter and stating your working language pair(s) and direction(s)
- Any translation/interpreting qualifications/certifications (if applicable)
Applying for Student
- Paid fees invoice for current semester at a NZ tertiary institution.
Applying for Observer
- No supporting documents required
