This online workshop is run in two half-day sessions on consecutive Saturdays:
Session 1: Saturday 19 June (9.30am - 1.30pm) - Chuchotage in Community Interpreting Settings
Session 2: Saturday 26 June (9.30am - 1.30pm) - Sight Translation
Book this event for the morning sessions. The price is for both morning sessions stated above. Please note this year the workshop is being held online due to travel uncertainty between NZ and Australia.
Chuchotage, also known as whispered interpreting, involves sitting behind one participant and interpreting in a low voice. It is used when interpreting in community settings such as in court, in some health care settings and in information sessions. This course offers chuchotage training for practising interpreters.

- Practice in basic simultaneous interpreting (SI) techniques
- Practice of chuchotage in community interpreting settings
- Challenges and strategies for overcoming them
- Managing the situation and ethical issues

Sight translation (ST) is the oral rendition of written text from one language into another language without loss of meaning, tone, register and purpose. It is often requested of an interpreter during an interpreting assignment to provide extra information for patients or clients or to reveal the contents of various documents during the assignment. This course offers sight translation training for practising interpreters.
