If you’ve ever felt uneasy about translating something that “sounded off” but couldn’t say why, then this session is for you. If you’ve been told your job is just to “say what was said”, then this session is especially for you.
Being ethical is about understanding the power embedded in everything we interpret or translate. In this webinar, Arabic–English translator Sam Berner will show you how to do so using the tool of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). What is that? Come and find out.
Sam will move participants (firmly and insightfully) to unlearn, rethink, and re-empower their perceptions, ethics, and practice. Through CDA, she will expose how hidden assumptions, ideology, and power shape the language translators and interpreters work with every day, and what this means for ethical practice.
This is not a session about following rules. It’s about rethinking what ethics truly means in a profession built on language, meaning, and power.
You can join us live or watch the recording at a later date. Please note: the recording will only be provided to registered participants.
The Zoom link will be sent to registered participants one day before the event. If you have not received the link, please email [email protected] for assistance (during business hours on weekdays only). Please check your spam email first.
