Join us for a presentation on legal interpreting in New Zealand, designed to help aspiring court interpreters build confidence in this demanding role. This session will provide practical insights into the dynamics of court proceedings, emphasising on-the-ground experience over academic theory. We will cover commonly used terminology and the ins and outs of our role as court interpreters.
A competent and confident interpreter not only enhances the standards of our profession but also plays a crucial role in ensuring the fair administration of justice. This presentation aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively navigate the complexities of court interpreting based on real work experience.
We will touch on the basics of the New Zealand judicial system to help attendees understand the context of scenarios they may encounter in assignments for courts and tribunals. A Q&A session will allow interpreters to share their concerns about the responsibilities of the role and discuss the impact of fatigue, stress, and content on our emotional well-being.
This event will be recorded so if you miss the event on the day, you can watch it later, and if you have the chance to attend on the day, you can watch it again!
