What is professional supervision?
Wednesday, 15 July
6.00 pm - 7.30 pm
10 NAATI recertification points
Have you ever wished you had a confidential space to talk through ethical dilemmas, difficult assignments, or the emotional weight of interpreting work? What happens when increasing demands, workplace conflict, or self-doubt begin to affect your confidence and professional judgement?
Professional supervision is a structured and supportive process that offers practitioners a dedicated space to reflect on their work with an experienced supervisor. In this introductory webinar, Lynx will explain what professional supervision is, how it differs from mentoring, and why it is increasingly recognised as an important support mechanism across practice-based professions.
Lynx holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Supervision and has worked with interpreters and other professionals for over 15 years. While most of her supervisees are NZSL-English interpreters, she has also worked with academics, midwives, social workers, and Deaf professionals. Her work focuses on creating a safe, confidential environment where practitioners can reflect on ethical dilemmas, workplace challenges, stress, trauma, career uncertainty and professional growth.
This session will explore how supervision supports reflective practice, strengthens ethical decision-making, builds resilience, and reduces professional isolation. Lynx will outline what typically happens in a supervision relationship, who it is for, and how regular supervision can lead to increased confidence and improved outcomes for both practitioners and the communities they serve.
This webinar serves as an introduction to professional supervision for interpreters. A second session later in the year will offer a small-group supervision experience for up to 10 NZSTI members, with participants selected at random from those who express interest.
