Join presenter Wladimir Padilla Silva as he shares the experiences and epiphanies he has had while navigating the intricate landscape of simultaneous interpreting in Aotearoa. Hear about the range of challenges he has dealt with during various simultaneous interpreting assignments.
After exploring the idea that, despite operating in distinctly different spheres, musicians and simultaneous interpreters are confronted with remarkably similar challenges, Wladimir will introduce the ‘plant analogy’ approach applied to simultaneous interpreting training in Aotearoa to achieve a thorough understanding and maximise knowledge acquisition. He will also discuss how to turn our alleged enemy – artificial intelligence – into our ally.
The presentation will conclude with an exploration of the power of voice inflection when rendering someone else’s words. Most interpreters do not have a performing arts background, which gives rise to the question: how biased is the interpretation of the speaker’s charisma?
Registrations are required and close at 11.59 pm on Wednesday, 24 April. A link to the meeting will be emailed on Thursday, 25 April to registered participants. If you don’t receive it, please check your spam folder before contacting us at info@nzsti.org.
