The Auckland branch AGM will be held on Wednesday 23 August, starting at 7 pm. The room will be open from 6.30 pm for socialising with colleagues. Refreshments provided.

Join us to hear what we've been up to this past year and vote in your new committee. This is also your opportunity to ask questions about the work of the committee and help set the direction and focus for its work over the coming 12 months.

If you’ve enjoyed coming to any of the events your branch has organised, please consider joining the committee. No experience or specific skills are required other than an ability to share your ideas and work in a small team. If you’d like to find out more or request a nomination form, please email auckland@nzsti.org.

You can view and download all the relevant AGM documents prior to the branch AGM here.

If you are unable to attend the AGM, you can still participate by completing a form to appoint a proxy and instructing them on how you wish to vote. You may email your apologies to auckland@nzsti.org.

Following the business part of the meeting, we will be joined by Alejandra González Campanella for a presentation on migration-related terminology.

Conveying forced displacement: an overview of key concepts for translators and interpreters

This short presentation seeks to equip all language professionals providing services to people from refugee backgrounds with essential skills to ensure accurate and respectful support. The talk will focus on providing an overview of forced migration, guiding attendees through basic concepts related to displacement, the legal provisions commonly cited, and the process for obtaining humanitarian protection. Key terminology and resources will be flagged for further exploration.

Parking is available under the Owen G Glenn (Business School) building for a flat rate of $6 from 5 pm.
