10 NAATI recertification points

Building on our February webinar on essential terminology in palliative care  settings and the 2024 NZSTI Conference panel discussion, we are pleased to welcome back Trish Fleming, Johanna Loodin, and Dr Oleg Kiriaev for an advanced round table and ethics discussion to explore the complexities of interpreting and translating in hospice settings.

This team of community clinicians from Hospice West Auckland will be sharing their experience and reflections on working with interpreting and translation colleagues to facilitate end-of-life and goals-of-care conversations. They will discuss the wide variety of settings and scenarios they encounter, highlighting how pivotal the interplay between interpreting services and the community hospice team are. This interactive session welcomes audience participation, offering a space to share experiences and stories with a view to exploring developing needs in this niche area.

As interpreters often act as the bridge between medical professionals and families during difficult moments, this discussion will provide valuable insights and practical strategies for navigating these sensitive interactions with professionalism and empathy.

Everyone is welcome to join the conversation – while attendance at the earlier webinar and conference may be helpful, it is not a requirement for participating in the discussions.

This event is open to all and eligible for 10 NAATI recertification points. This webinar also qualifies as an advanced ethics event, offering valuable professional development for interpreters seeking to meet their annual recertification requirements.

You can join us live or watch the recording at a later date. Please note that the recording will only be provided to registered participants.
The Zoom link will be sent to registered participants one day before the event. If you have not received the link, please email info@nzsti.org for assistance (during business hours on weekdays only). Please check your spam email first.

Registration for this event will close at 11.59 pm on Tuesday, 8 April 2025
