Auckland Branch July Translators Cafe

Start Date: 31-07-2019
End Date: 31-07-2019
Location: University of Auckland

We are excited to announce our next translators' café will take place on Wednesday 31st July between 6:30pm and 8:30pm in the Pat Hanan room at the University of Auckland.

The event is an informal discussion and a great opportunity to share and gain insights and network with like-minded professionals. You will be able to talk in groups about three topics, relevant to the profession and picked for that evening according to the following agenda:

  • Rates and payment: How do you decide on your rates, how and when do you increase them and how do you negotiate with clients? How do you get paid, what payment options do you offer, how do you transfer money, what fees are charged and what do you do when a client doesn’t pay?
  • Invoicing practices and job tracking: What software/tools do you use, when do you do your invoicing or job tracking and why did you choose your system/method?
  • Finding new clients: How do you find new clients, what do they require as proof of your experience/quality, how do you retain them?

DATE: WEDNESDAY, 31 JULY 2019, 6.30 p.m - 8.30 p.m

VENUE: University of Auckland, Arts 2 Building, 18 Symonds St, Level 5, room 501 (Patrick Hanan Room)

GETTING THERE: The University of Auckland campus is easily accessible by public transport and there are always a bunch of us walking to public transport hubs after NZSTI events.

BUS, TRAIN, FERRY: Buses, trains and ferries are convenient and cost-effective ways to get into the central city. The University of Auckland is only a 10-15 minute walk up the hill from Britomart or Wellesley St. Alternatively, there are a couple of bus services from the bottom of town to the city campus, for example the number 70 (from 50 Customs St East) and the 27 (from Commerce St near Galway St, right opposite Britomart train station). These services depart every 10-15 minutes and take you up Anzac Avenue to Symonds St (stops 7144 and 7146 respectively, near the corner of Symonds St and Waterloo Crescent).

Use the Auckland Transport journey planner https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/ (also available as an app) or google maps https://www.google.com/maps/ to plan your journey.

PARKING: free car parking in the surrounding city streets is very limited. Paid parking is available for a flat evening rate in the Owen Glenn Building (Business School), 12 Grafton Road: http://www.parkopedia.co.nz/parking/carpark/owen_g_glenn_building/1010/auckland/

Looking forward to seeing you there!
