Christchurch, New Zealand
1-2 June 2019

The multicultural aspect of NZSTI’s 2019 Conference theme has added resonance in what will be the United Nations International Year of Indigenous Languages. When speakers of different languages meet, the encounter is cultural as well as linguistic, and this is part of the reality of life not only in Aotearoa-New Zealand but in many countries throughout the world.

In an increasingly multicultural world, the translating and interpreting professions, dedicated as they are to promoting communication and understanding between peoples and cultures, have a more vital role than ever before in the resolution or mitigation of conflict, in the enhancement of life and civilization.

Against this background, developments in communication and information technology continue to present fresh challenges not only to the practitioners of today in terms of professional self-development but also to those entrusted with the education and training of the practitioners of tomorrow.

NZSTI invites scholars and practitioners to submit proposals
for presentations addressing aspects of this theme at our
2019 Conference
in Christchurch on 1~2 June 2019.

PRESENTATIONS may be in paper or in workshop form.

Papers may comprise either a 20-minute presentation or a 35-minute presentation, followed by limited question time.

Workshops should normally comprise a 50-minute presentation which introduces a practical activity to a small to medium-size group; however, alternative formats will be considered if the proposed topic, objectives and treatment are deemed likely to be of sufficient interest and value.

Please submit abstracts of up to 250 words - electronically to the Organising Committee at conference@nzsti.org or by post c/- Peter Tuffley, 114 Birdwood Avenue, Beckenham, Christchurch 8023.

The closing date for submissions is now 01 April 2019.

Submitters will be notified of acceptance or otherwise soon after that date.
