This webinar will be presented by Dr Francesca Benocci from Victoria University. She will talk to us about the world of literary translation and give us useful insights on how to approach this specific field of translation.

Among the many types of translation, literary translation is among the most coveted and the hardest to break into and succeed at. But what makes translation "literary"?

Francesca Benocci, who has extensive experience in this field and has translated New Zealand poet Janet Frame, among others, is a regular contributor to the US-based Journal of Italian Translation. She will talk us through some of the most common questions about this topic.

  • How do we get started in literary translation?
  • How can we approach publishers or authors?
  • How can we get a translation accepted for publishing?
  • And what about the money?

These and other aspects of working as a literary translator will be covered, followed by a Q&A session and complete with an essential bibliography for the literary translator.
