Entitled "Disruption and Diversification", the 21st FIT World Congress Congress is being hosted by the Australian society AUSIT, and will take place in Brisbane from 3-5 August, 2017.
This is a perfect opportunity to attend a FIT Congress, with just a short flight across to Australia.
Early Bird registration is open until 14 February 2017.
The 2017 Congress will highlight the impact of technology, globalisation, policy, and economic change on the delivery of language services; with dedicated streams for localisation, social media translation trends, globalisation, technology, and creativity. Specific streams for indigenous and sign languages, interpreting in the community and conflict zones, and literary translation will also feature.
NEW LIABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME LAUNCHED:
NZSTI has re-negotiated an excellent liability insurance scheme through Thorners (with Lumley Insurance). Depending on the type of work you do, Members and Affiliates should seriously consider joining the scheme. Click here to view/download the details in pdf. To join contact Thorners directly.
Professional webinars for free! For 6 months (starting 1 February 2017) NZSTI is going to pay for your webinar fees, and all you have to do is post a review article, telling us about your experience.
Click here for details of the scheme and how to apply.

IN THE FORUM: The Forum has been active recently, with some very useful topics, including a job opportunity in Auckland for a full time Editor/Translator.
Another brings up a point of interest for those listed with NZTA regarding stating your working languages.

1. If you have tried to turn on Forum Notifications without apparent success, please email me to check via the Admin access - your request probably has been saved. It appears that because the default status is "No" the display reverts to No even when changed to Yes. If your Forum status is Yes and you still have not received notifications, it could be a spam filter issue.
2. Some posts get recorded twice - sorry about the extra notifications this generates but as it does not always happen the cause is not obvious, so not easy to fix. I monitor this and delete the duplicates, but please let me know if I have overlooked any.
Other items mentioned in the last e-newsletter may be still current and are accessible on the website, if not on the homepage then scroll down to Click here to read all news.
For anyone who did not receive the notice just before Christmas, the December Word for Word is online - click the link for direct access to the downloadable pdf.
Remember to check the Other Conferences page for opportunities to attend conferences overseas, particularly if you are planning a trip - you may be able to enjoy a PD event while you are away.
